Chicago Eats

Another great way to explore Chicago is through its food!

In the West Loop, there are so many popular restaurants.  Green Street Smoked Meats , with its laid back vibe and outdoor seating, is perfect for a pre-dinner drink and snack (BBQ platter pictured below).

Vera is a great West Loop wine bar — try a sherry flight!  For dinner, make your way over to The Publican for an impressive menu of rustic sustainable meat, seafood, and veggie dishes, paired with great cocktails.  Finish the night with some late night drinks at The Aviary, an intimate lounge hosting the most creative cocktails that are an experience in themselves!

Another great way to explore Chicago neighborhoods is through a food tour.  Since I wanted to try a different neighborhood, I took Chicago Food Planet’s Bucktown and Wicker Park Food Tour.

The walking tour of Bucktown and Wicker Park includes a number of samplings, from a true Chicago-style hot dog from George’s Hot Dogs, to decadent hot chocolate at Mindy’s Hot Chocolate, to a delicious kale salad from Goddess & Grocer.  We also got to learn more about the food scene, and history of the neighborhoods, including some noteworthy architecture.

At some point, be sure to go up to the John Hancock building for a drink at The Signature Lounge at the 96th.  The line may be long, but the views of downtown Chicago cannot be beat!

And don’t leave Chicago without taking in some live jazz at the historic Green Mill Cocktail Lounge!

There are so many restaurants and bars in Chicago.  I can’t wait to go back and try more!

What are your favorite drinks and eats in Chicago?

Cheers!
